The Thorold Anchors (1-2) fell to the defending league champions Beamsville Yellow Jackets (2-0) on Tuesday night at McMillan Park.

The Yellow Jackets started fast by putting up a 4 spot in the top of the first inning off of starter Ben Dobrowolski (1-1). Beamsville added on with a sacrifice fly in the second to make it 5-0.

The Anchors opened their scoring in the bottom of the fourth with an rbi single from Jacob Turner that scored Dan Smith to make the game 5-1.

Beamsville was able to tack on a couple runs in the sixth to make the game 7-1 before the Anchors attempted to mount a seventh inning comeback. A couple of walks and hit by pitches scored a run and loaded the bases with no outs but reliever Carter Gray struck out the heart of the Anchors’ order to end the game.

Starter Tyler Rose (1-0) picked up the win for Beamsville pitching five and two thirds innings giving up one unearned run and striking out 9 Anchors.

Kyle D’Angela pitched well in relief for Thorold throwing four innings giving up two runs (one unearned) walking two Yellow Jackets and striking out three.

Leading the Anchors offensively was Dylan Dempsey who went 3 for 3 with an rbi to bring his season average to .600 (6 for 10). Jacob Turner also chipped in with an rbi.

The Anchors are back in action on Sunday in Welland to take on the Pioneers. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm.
