The Thorold Anchors (1-1) dropped their home opener of the 2025 season against the Niagara Falls Expos (1-1) by the score of 13-2.
Niagara Falls took the lead in the top of the first inning and didn’t look back. A balanced Expo attack was led by first baseman Josh Thorpe who finished a home run short of the cycle. Thorpe went 3 for 4 with 3 rbi and 2 runs scored.
Thorold loaded the bases in the first inning with nobody out but failed to score in what would be a sign of things to come. The Anchors’ power outage resulted in just one hit after amassing 17 in the season opener against Merritton. Dan Smith managed to record the lone hit on the evening.
Dan Smith (0-1) took the loss pitching three innings giving up four runs (one earned) striking out one and walking two.
Nick Cook (1-0) picked up the win for the Expos. Cook pitched four innings giving up two runs (one earned) striking out six Anchors and walking four.
Thorold will travel to St. Catharines on Thursday night to face the first place St. Catharines Cobras (2-0). First pitch is scheduled for 7:30pm.
