The Thorold Anchors (1-0) began their 2025 campaign with a decisive 12-5 victory Friday night at George Taylor Field in Merritton.
Thorold jumped out a 4-0 lead by the third inning capitalizing on a couple of Merritton errors and rbi hits from Max Dobrowolski and Drew Timlock.
Merritton clawed back into the game scoring two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings with rbi from Ben Collins, Jeff Young and Dave Davidson.
The Anchors took the lead for good with four runs in the sixth and added another four insurance runs in the seventh for good measure.
Merritton was able to score one run in the seventh but the comeback was stopped short as Nicholas Gambell finished out the game allowing one run while stranding two Alliance base runners.
Ben Dobrowolski (1-0) picked up the victory for Thorold pitching two innings and striking out two Alliance while giving up two unearned runs. Starter Dalton Procyshen threw four innings in the no decision striking out six Alliance while giving up two runs and walking three.
Will Sagloski (0-1) took the loss for Merritton throwing four innings giving up five runs (four earned), striking out three Anchors while walking two.
Every member of the Anchors’ starting lineup got at least one hit with the team totalling 17 for the game. Leaders on the night included Dan Smith 3 for 4 with three runs scored and three rbi; Mark Suntz 3 for 5 and a run scored and Max Dobrowolski 2 for 5 with two rbi, two runs scored and a stolen base.
The Thorold Anchors open their home schedule Tuesday night at 7:30pm against the Niagara Falls Expos (0-1) at McMillan Park.
