Slow Start Sinks Anchors
A 7 run first inning paced the Merritton Alliance (3-2) to a 17-5 victory over the Thorold Anchors (1-5) on Thursday night.
The offensive outburst came against starting pitcher Luke Edwards (0-1) who was making his franchise record 106th start surpassing Anchors legend Jake Maxwell for most starts all time.
Every member of the Alliance’ starting lineup collected at least one hit and were led by Mike Brettell who went 4 for 4 with 2 rbi and 3 runs scored.
Starting pitcher Jacob Renyen (1-1) collected the win for Merritton going 4 innings allowing 5 runs (2 earned), striking out 5 and walking 5.
Highlights for the Anchors included a 3 for 3 night for Dan Smith at the plate, a first career hit by pitch for Carson Eden and 0 errors committed defensively.
Thorold travels to league leading Beamsville (6-0) Friday night to face the Yellow Jackets at Beamsville Lions Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30pm.
