Expos Collect First Win; Anchors Drop Third Straight
The Niagara Falls Expos (1-4) defeated the Thorold Anchors (1-4) 9-0 on Tuesday night on the strength of a complete game shutout thrown by pitcher Jason Baldinelli.
“Baldy was great tonight, threw a lot of strikes. Made us swing at the pitches he wanted us to swing at,” said manager Aaron McInnis.
Baldinelli kept the Anchors offence off balance going 7 strong tossing 9 strikeouts without allowing a walk and only giving up 3 hits on 96 pitches.
The Expos were driven offensively by second baseman Al Stephens who went 3 for 4 with 5 rbi.
Thorold pitching allowed 13 walks on the night. “You can’t win a ballgame when you walk that many people. I think the thing that’s notable from the game is the strike zone and they adjusted to it and we didn’t, and that’s why we suffered our fate.”
The Anchors picked up 3 hits on the night from Max Dobrowolski, Riley Gambell and Tony Brown.
Dan Smith (0-2) took the loss pitching 4 innings giving up 1 run while striking out 1 and walking 3 Expos.
The Anchors will look to break their losing streak on Thursday night as they host the Merritton Alliance (2-2) at McMillan Park at 7:30pm.
